Sites can be on the lake, in the woods or near other campsites, depending on the size of the campground. Tent sites may often have a small electrical hookup, but most of the time, it will be a basic site with a picnic table and firepit. RV and travel trailer sites can have much more. These sites can have shaded awnings, full electric, water and sewer hookups, cable TV, a fire pit and picnic table. RV parks and resorts, designed solely for RV will be the highest in terms of quality when it comes to camping. These resorts will have cable TV, Internet access, full hook-ups, laundry and nice restroom setups than most campgrounds. State parks, like a national park, will have the most basic amenities, but some may have electric and the occasional water hookup.

But in addition to the volt electrical supply, there may also be lights, fans, a refrigerator, or other electrical devices which use a 12 volt supply, like that of a car or truck. A volt DC system powers the RV refrigerator to keep food cold while the RV or camper trailer is moving from place to place. The same goes for the lights and fans. It also keeps the on-board batteries fully charged. This system relies on the volt AC electrical power supply for amperage. It is possible to pull a volt power supply from the RV or camper trailer’s electrical system or volt campsite power supply.
Then the volt supply can be stepped down to 12 volts after it is run through a power converter and to a particular appliance. These two electrical systems are treated independently from each other when diagnosing electrical problems, except for determining power to the converter. The lights, fans, or refrigerator may each be on their own circuits, depending on the amperage required. If the converter is supplying 12 volts to the breaker panel and the breakers test positive for voltage, this leaves the wiring or the particular appliance at fault.

Most people ask if I can explain the RV electrical system in simple to understand terms. The electrical system in your RV can seem complex and confusing until you have a basic understanding of how it works. Your RV actually has three separate electrical systems. We are primarily concerned with the volt DC and volt AC coach systems. The majority of campgrounds you go to will provide you with an external volt electric source to plug into.
Your RV has a heavy-duty power cord that is normally about 25 feet long. Depending on the type of RV you have, or purchase, it will either be a 30 Amp or 50 Amp system. When you plug into the proper campground electrical source it will supply power throughout your RV. You must have a Volt AC power source if you are going to use the microwave, roof air conditioner, the refrigerator in the electric mode and the Volt electrical outlets.
For the most part everything else in the camper works off of volt DC power. When you are plugged in at the campground a portion of the volt AC current is converted to volt DC current for the items in the RV that work off of 12 volts.

Winger At first we wanted a vintage canned ham trailer, but most needed too much rebuilding, then we thought about building a teardrop, but after seeing cargo trailer conversions we were sold! The electrical was easy, and essentially has 3 circuits to handle individual loads, however the entire trailer with LEDs and low watt Microwave, and BTU AC barely works the generator.
Everything electrical can be used simultaneously without overload Try that in a conventional RV using only a single volt power source We installed LED lighting throughout with a total of 7 very bright efficient lights. And I used a very powerful used computer CPU fan for the bathroom closet exhaust system, and had the intake fresh air to the bathroom piped in with a flapper valve underneath the chemical toilet, so when the CPU fan is turned on the lower intake flapper valve opens automatically and creates a fresh air system.
Having Native Hawaiian blood myself, we also chose to Tattoo the bathroom exterior wood by burning in a Hawaiian motif into it. The interior of the bathroom closet was wallpapered using old 00 and 1 comic books we had in an old box collecting dust…. I hope none were worth too much money, because now their bathroom reading material permanently! We used a corian brand countertop that we found at a local used bldg supply house most of the materials used were purchased this way except toilet, TV, and AC unit and fit almost perfectly in the trailer.
After finishing the electrical, and insulation, we put a vapor barrier on the walls and ceiling along with painted scratch and dent paint at Home depot wallboard and created an airtight trailer interior. I had gotten the aluminum diamond plate sheet from doing some help for a neighbor, and we installed that as backsplash for the kitchen area. Once the cabinets were finished we fabricated a bathroom closet and also insulated that to be sound proof, used old comic books as wallpaper, and installed the toilet.
The flooring was epoxied, and sealed then vinyl flooring was installed, and then all the trim was installed on everything to finish it off. For added sound deadening we added carpet remnants picked up for free in the sleeping area. The doors were all filled with spray foam for added insulation, and an added window installed on the side door.

Use pliers or a crescent wrench to remove the top off of the electrical reel. Sand both sides of the round piece with an orbital sander. I decided to use the underside of my reel piece because it lacked the bolt holes. Glue a round piece of wood to the center of your clock to cover the middle hole. I used regular wood glue.
